The barrier that both Angels and Evangelions can raise.
The Absolute Terror Field, or A.T. Field, is a barrier that both Angels and Evangelions can generate to protect themselves. Fields usually appear as orange octagonal waves of energy and are invisible until something collides with them.

Background
Their strength varies: Zeruel and Ramiel have extremely strong fields, while Matarael's was very weak. An Evangelion's field depends on its pilot's synchronisation and the strength setting, which pilots control from the entry plug. A.T. Fields work as an almost impenetrable shield; only the most powerful weapons such as N2 weapons can breach one, usually with little damage. For most of the series the only things that reliably penetrate a field are another A.T. Field, as when Unit-01 tears open Sachiel's, and the Spear of Longinus. Some Angels use their fields to move or attack: Sachiel, Israfel and Bardiel make field-assisted jumps, and Sahaquiel and Zeruel attack with theirs.
