Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist

A woman hears heart songs in a jukebox musical comedy-drama.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is a jukebox musical comedy-drama TV series from the U.S., created by Austin Winsberg. It debuted on NBC on January 7, 2020. Jane Levy plays Zoey Clarke, a software developer who gains the power to hear people's deepest feelings expressed through song after an MRI is disrupted by an earthquake. Each episode includes song-and-dance numbers performed by the cast, who sing for their own characters. With the exception of "Crimson Love" from season two, all songs are pre-existing popular tracks. The main cast includes Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Peter Gallagher, Mary Steenburgen, Lauren Graham, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar, and Bernadette Peters. NBC renewed the show for a second season in June 2020, which premiered on January 5, 2021, but canceled it after two seasons in June 2021. That same year, The Roku Channel released a two-hour holiday film titled Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas. The film's end credits feature "North Star," the series' second original song, written by Mary Steenburgen, Caitlyn Smith, and Troy Verges, and sung by Tori Kelly.
