History

Founded in 1953 as Toongabbie Soccer Club, the side adopted the name Blacktown City in 1979. Over the next decade, it appeared in the National Soccer League during the 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1990 seasons. Following that, the club moved to New South Wales’ top tier, the NSW Premier League, where it claimed the Premiership (first place) in 2001, 2002/03, 2004/05, 2006, and 2008. In 2007, competing as Blacktown City Demons, the team secured a double: the Premiership and the Championship, rallying from a 1–1 scoreline with ten players to beat Bankstown City 3–1. The Demons Sports Club owned the team until entering liquidation in 2009; the demon symbol stayed in the crest, but the word “Demons” was removed from the title. On 2 August 2017, Blacktown City downed Central Coast Mariners 3–2 in the FFA Cup Round of 32, becoming the fifth state-level club to knock out an A-League side. They advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating APIA Leichhardt Tigers in the Round of 16, then fell to Western Sydney Wanderers on penalties. That result matched the club’s best FFA Cup run, first achieved in 2016 with a loss to Sydney FC.
