Jersey City Skeeters

Minor league team with the best single-season winning percentage.

The Jersey City Skeeters were a minor league baseball team based in Jersey City, New Jersey. Originating as an amateur club in the 1860s, they joined the National Association of Base Ball Players by 1870. The team played in various leagues, including the Eastern League, International League, Central League, and Atlantic Association, often disbanding mid-season. Their most notable season was 1903, when they won their only league title with a record of 92–33 (.736), a winning percentage that remains the best in minor league baseball history as of 2025. That team was managed by player-manager Billy Murray. The Skeeters played at several ballparks, including Grand Street Grounds, Oakland Park, and two versions of West Side Park. The franchise was forfeited to the International League in 1915 and moved to Newark, New Jersey after that season.
