Junior
Lindbäck started his career with Brynäs IF’s junior team in 2003 and played his first elite game in 2006. He spent the 2007–08 season on loan with Almtuna IS in HockeyAllsvenskan. The Nashville Predators selected him in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 207th overall. He signed with Timrå IK in March 2009 for the 2009–10 season.
Professional
Moving to North America for the 2010–11 season, Lindbäck made his NHL debut on October 9, relieving Pekka Rinne against the Anaheim Ducks. He earned his first NHL shutout on December 11 against the Florida Panthers, then recorded a second shutout two days later against the New York Islanders. During the 2012–13 NHL lockout, he played for Ilves in the Finnish Liiga, posting a .930 save percentage and a 2.33 goals-against average in 12 games.
In June 2012, the Predators traded Lindbäck, Kyle Wilson, and a seventh-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Sébastien Caron, two second-round picks in 2012, and a third-round pick in 2013. After two disappointing seasons, Tampa Bay did not offer him a new contract.
He signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars on July 1, 2014. After only 10 games in Dallas, he was traded with a conditional third-round pick to the Buffalo Sabres for Jhonas Enroth. He debuted for Buffalo on March 3, 2015, starting against his former team, the Lightning.
The Sabres moved on from Lindbäck, and he signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes on July 1, 2015. Following a third straight subpar NHL season, he remained unsigned over the summer.
He accepted a professional tryout with the New Jersey Devils on September 16, 2016, but was released after training camp. On October 25, he agreed to a tryout with the AHL’s Ontario Reign, hoping to back up the Los Angeles Kings. He played four games and was released on November 19.
Returning to Sweden, Lindbäck signed with SHL club Rögle BK on December 14, 2016, for the rest of the season. He started regularly, winning 7 of 23 games as Rögle avoided relegation by winning all four of his postseason starts. On July 1, 2017, he returned to the Nashville Predators on a one-year, two-way contract.
