via Wikipedia: Tijuana Cartel · see source

The Tijuana Cartel, formerly also called the Arellano-Felix Cartel, is a Mexican cartel based in Tijuana, Baja California, founded by the Arellano-Felix family. It grew out of the Guadalajara Cartel: after its founder Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo was arrested in 1989 and later moved to a maximum-security prison, his organisation split into three factions, the Tijuana Cartel under his nephews the Arellano-Felix brothers, the Juarez Cartel under Amado Carrillo Fuentes and the Sinaloa Cartel.

Reader's Guide

Once described as one of the biggest and most violent criminal groups in Mexico, it was reduced to a few cells after the Sinaloa Cartel moved into Baja California in 2006 and the Arellano-Felix brothers fell. Narcos: Mexico depicts its men escaping from Guadalajara airport on a TAESA plane after the murder of Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo, though the article notes several competing theories about that escape.
