Life and work

Howard began his motorsport career in karting in south Essex.[3] He won the Indy Pro Series (Indy Lights) Championship and Rookie of the Year honors in 2006 while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports.[2] The team selected Howard based on his driving ability, and he did not contribute any sponsorship money.[4] For the 2008 Indianapolis 500, John Andretti took over the No. 24 Roth Racing car, replacing Howard.[4]

Howard got back behind the wheel for the road course event held at Watkins Glen International.[4] Howard earned a starting position for the 94th Indianapolis 500 on 23 May 2010.[5]

What the cited sources add

Howard introduced the Jay Howard Driver Development team in 2017, based in Westfield, Indiana.[2] Howard stated that the cost of breaking into Formula One was a major reason he turned to the United States.[3] He also said that nothing in racing compares to racing in the Indy 500.[3] At New Castle Motorsports Park on 10 October 2010, Howard and Bill McLaughlin Jr. were the victors of the RoboPong 200 all-star kart race.[6]
