RWBY (pronounced as the individual letters 'R-W-B-Y') is an American animated web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. Set in the fictional world of Remnant, it follows four young women—Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long—who train as Huntresses to protect their world from monsters called Grimm. The series is notable for its color-coded character design and its evolution after the death of its creator.

Lore & Background
RWBY was a long-standing concept of Monty Oum's, developed during his work on Red vs. Blue. The color-coding approach to character names and design served as a hook for the series. Oum designed the characters with artist Ein Lee, using classic fairy tale inspirations. The series was originally written by Oum, Miles Luna, and Kerry Shawcross. Oum expressed concern about a primarily male crew developing female characters but felt they managed well. The series aimed for a 2D toon-shaded look with 3D depth.
