Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, an action role-playing game from Capcom, hit the PlayStation Portable in 2010. As the third handheld title in the Monster Hunter series, it takes the core elements of Monster Hunter Tri and reshapes them into a fresh single-player story, while also adding its own original features. A high-definition remaster arrived for the PlayStation 3 in Japan on August 25, 2011, as the first entry in Sony's "PSP Remasters" line. This version boasts upgraded HD visuals, 3D support, and the ability to share save data with the PSP original.
In gameplay, players assume the role of a monster hunter dispatched from the hunters guild to Yukumo village. There, they take on quests ranging from monster slaying to gathering resources. On the sales front, the game topped Japan's charts on December 5, 2010, unseating Gran Turismo 5. By December 20, just two weeks after release, it had sold 2.58 million units in Japan. Capcom called it the fastest-selling PSP title ever in Japan and the fastest-selling game in the company's history. By June 2011, Japanese sales hit 4.8 million units, making it one of the best-selling PSP games.
