The film follows Aiden, a veteran hunter aboard the Fifth Fleet, as he recounts his first encounter with an Elder Dragon ten years earlier. As a teenager in a remote mountain village, Aiden hunted minor monsters for his neighbors. After being rescued by guild hunter Julius, he learns that the livestock thief is a Melynx named Nox. Aiden captures Nox and soon discovers that an Elder Dragon, a Lunastra, is migrating toward his village.
