OZ

Lore & Background

Following the dissolution of earlier governing bodies, OZ was established to consolidate power under a centralized Earth government. Their ideology suggests that peace can only be maintained if the colonies remain subservient to Earth's authority. This stance puts them in direct opposition to the Five Pilots from space, who fight for independence and freedom. The organization is known for its sophisticated mobile suit development programs, creating units like the OZ-07MS G-Cannon specifically designed to counter Gundam capabilities.

However, their internal culture is not monolithic; commanders often hold differing views on how best to achieve victory, ranging from Treize's desire for a duel of ideals to more ruthless factions seeking total subjugation. As the war progresses, OZ becomes entangled in the schemes of political figures like Relena Peacecraft and the White Fang terrorists. This complexity turns the faction into a gray area between oppressor and protector, as some members genuinely believe they are saving humanity from chaos.

Reader's Guide

The Organization of Zodiacs, commonly known as OZ, serves as the primary military force for the Earth Alliance during the AD era. Established following the collapse of previous governing bodies, their mandate is to maintain strict order across the Earth Sphere, often at the expense of space colony autonomy. While publicly presented as peacekeepers, they frequently employ aggressive tactics to suppress dissent and secure resources from the colonies.

Key figures within OZ include Marshal Treize Kushrenada, who leads with a philosophy of noble combat, and Lieutenant Zechs Merquise, whose true loyalties remain ambiguous throughout much of the conflict. The organization fields advanced mobile suits designed specifically to counter the mysterious Gundam units piloted by the five teenagers from space. Internal divisions eventually fracture OZ unity. As political tensions rise between Earth leaders and the colonies, factions form within the ranks.

Some members seek true peace through diplomacy, while others pursue total domination. This schism ultimately contributes to their downfall as the war concludes, leaving a legacy of complex morality rather than simple villainy.
