Spirit Mediuming
Bridging the gap between humans and spirits through confidence or genuine power.
In the world of Mob Psycho 100, Spirit Mediuming is the practice of communicating with or exorcising supernatural entities. While often presented as a professional service, the line between genuine psychic ability and fraudulent performance is central to the series. The concept underpins the economy of spiritual threats, where confidence and showmanship can be as influential as actual power.

Lore & Background
Within this universe, spirits are tangible entities capable of influencing human emotions and physical reality. While many individuals claim to channel these beings, most lack actual spiritual connection. The line between a scam artist performing rituals for money and a true psychic neutralizing a threat is often blurred in the public eye. The existence of the Spirit World further complicates mediuming, suggesting that some interactions are not merely psychological but involve crossing into another dimension. Psychics like Shigeo Kageyama interact with spirits through raw energy rather than traditional channels, rendering standard mediuming techniques obsolete against high-level threats. Notably, Reigen Arataka, despite running a successful exorcism business, possesses zero psychic abilities and relies entirely on tricks and confidence to simulate spirit mediuming.
Reader's Guide
Spirit Mediuming in this setting functions primarily as a social service rather than a hard magic system. Practitioners typically rely on psychological suggestion and theatrical rituals to convince clients their problem is solved. However, genuine interaction with spirits requires either inherent psychic ability or a specific attachment between the human and the entity. Psychics can perceive and manipulate these beings directly without needing to act as vessels. Most who claim this title are frauds capitalizing on fear. Real exorcism involves overwhelming spiritual pressure that normal humans cannot withstand, often requiring intervention from those with high energy levels.
