Lore & Background
Thibodeau was head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2016 to 2019. He was released in January 2019, ending a tenure of about three years. The Timberwolves made their first playoff appearance in 14 years in his second season.
In Their Own Story
The Target Center lights hummed low over the hardwood during a late-season practice in February. Thibodeau stood at center court, clipboard tucked under his arm, watching the defensive rotations unfold with narrowed eyes. The sound of sneakers squeaking echoed sharply against the rafters as players ran drills that demanded maximum effort on every possession. He didn't shout; he simply stopped the action when a rotation was slow. 'Again,' he said, his voice calm but heavy with expectation. The young stars wiped sweat from their brows, knowing this work would define them in games against rivals. Outside the arena, snow fell softly on Minneapolis streets, mirroring the cold discipline required inside.
Reader's Guide
Thibodeau is renowned as a defensive specialist with significant regular season success, though he has also drawn criticism for playing his starters heavy minutes and his perceived stubbornness.
