Holland Park Hawks FC

Queensland club that rose through divisions and returned to FQPL 1 in 2024.

Last updated

Based in Camp Hill, Queensland, Holland Park Hawks FC plays in the Football Queensland Premier League, which is the third tier of Australian football. The team earned this spot by moving up from Football Queensland Premier League 2 in 2024. The club also runs youth sides from under-9s to under-18s in Football Queensland Academy Leagues.

History

Holland Park Hawks Football Club was formed in 1976 and played at Whites Hill Reserve in Camp Hill. During the 1980s and 1990s the club competed in the Church League before entering Football Brisbane competition in 2008, where it topped the Metro League Division Two table in its first season and earned promotion. Further promotions followed in 2010, 2014 and 2015, each achieved by finishing first in the league as premiers; the club also won grand finals in those three years: a 2–1 victory over Ridge Hills United in the 2010 Metro League Division 1 final, a 3–2 win against Park Ridge in the 2014 Capital League 2 final, and a 3–0 defeat of North Pine in the 2015 Capital League 1 final.

In 2010 the Hawks also won the Metro Cup (Veto Cup) by beating Souths United 2–1. The club's debut in the 2016 Brisbane Premier League saw it finish third in the table and reach the preliminary final of the finals series. Seeking to build on that success, the club applied to join the new National Premier Leagues structure; in May 2017 Football Queensland announced Holland Park Hawks as one of 14 clubs accepted into the Football Queensland Premier League for its inaugural 2018 season.

In its first FQPL 1 season the Hawks placed 10th among 13 teams. Three years later, in 2021, they finished 10th out of 11 and were relegated to Football Queensland Premier League 2. In the 2024 season, Hawash's second in charge, the Hawks were premiers of FQPL 2, losing only one league match and accumulating 57 points—at the time the equal highest points tally in a single FQPL 2 season, tied with Broadbeach United S.C. from the previous season.

Academy

The club has long emphasised its youth academy. Its most notable academy graduate is Abrahim Yango, who later played in the A-League Men for Brisbane Roar FC. The academy teams moved from Football Brisbane competitions into Football Queensland competitions in 2017, alongside the senior men's side entering FQPL 1.

Since then the academy has competed in the Football Queensland Academy Leagues, remaining in the second tier of academy football in Queensland; from 2023 to 2026 the club was ranked 11th among Football Queensland academies, at the top of League 2. In 2025 the under-18s won the U18 Football Queensland Academy League 2 Grand Final, defeating Magic United 2–0. That U18 squad included three players who had scored for the senior men's team that season, among them Aiden Sun, who was 15 years old when he scored his first senior goal.
