Last updated
Hume City FC is a semi-professional club from Broadmeadows, Melbourne, founded by the local Turkish Australian community. Known as Anadoluspor, it plays in the National Premier Leagues Victoria and is Australia’s most successful Turkish Australian-backed club. Its senior men’s, women’s, and junior teams train at John Ilhan Memorial Reserve.
History
The club was established as Holland Park Football Club in 1979 by Cengiz Binyazar, Halit Kirdar and Abdullah Saglam. It officially registered with the Victorian Soccer Federation that year, with Emin Aslan serving as president in its inaugural season. In 1993, the club moved to Reddish Reserve and renamed itself North Coburg Soccer Club, aiming to rise out of the amateur divisions. North Coburg achieved promotion from State League 4 in 1996, finishing second, and again from State League 3 in 1999, finishing third.
In its first season in Victorian State League Division 2 Nth-West, the club placed fourth, narrowly missing a promotion playoff. After placing third in 2001, the club reached the finals but did not win the playoff. In 2002, North Coburg earned promotion from State League 2 N/W to State League 1, the highest level it had then reached, and recorded four successive mid-table finishes there. By 2006, the club was known as Coburg United Soccer Club and played at Knights Stadium in North Sunshine.
A second-place finish in 2007 brought promotion to the Victorian Premier League for the first time, capping four promotions in eleven years from State League 4 to the top division. The club narrowly avoided relegation that season, saved by a 93rd-minute header from Tansel Başer against Frankston Pines. In 2009, the club was renamed Hume City Football Club upon moving to Broadmeadows Valley Park in the City of Hume. New $12 million facilities, including three grass pitches, a 3G pitch, a grandstand, and modern clubrooms, officially opened in 2014.
The club rebranded its logo in 2015 to represent its past, present, and future. Hume City finished sixth in 2014, the first season of the newly formed 14-team National Premier Leagues Victoria.
Women
Hume City debuted a women's side in 2017 at the fifth and lowest tier of Victorian women's football, State League 4 North. The team swept the competition, winning all 18 matches, allowing only five goals, and posting a +186 goal difference. Ebru Hasan netted 93 goals.
The next year, Hume City secured another title and promotion, clinching State League 3 West with three matches left after 15 straight league victories. Their dominance included three wins by 13 goals, one by 12, and one by 11. On 10 August 2018, the team suffered its first loss since joining the state system, a 4-0 defeat to St Albans Saints SC.
