Based in Laagri, Harjumaa, the professional Estonian club Harju JK (short for Harju Jalgpallikool Laagri) was founded in 2009. It began senior-level play in 2015, first reached the top-tier Meistriliiga in 2023, and has been back in that league since 2025.
History
Harju Jalgpallikool started on 27 August 2009, built around youth development and preparing players for Estonia's national youth teams and overseas academies. The club moved into senior football in 2015, debuting in the country's lowest tier, IV Liiga. In 2019, Portuguese coach Victor da Silva took over, and Harju then earned promotion four years in a row. Throughout that run, the squad relied heavily on homegrown talent, which helped Karel Mustmaa land a three-year professional deal with Benfica and Imre Kartau transfer to Venezia F.C. Harju won the Esiliiga in 2022, earning a first-ever promotion to the Premium Liiga.
The 2023 top-flight campaign saw some strong results, but the club finished bottom with 23 points and was relegated. Harju bounced back immediately, claiming the 2024 Esiliiga title to return to the top division. In the 2025 Meistriliiga season, they placed seventh with 36 points. That year also marked a milestone: Karel Eerme became the first Harju player called up to the Estonia senior national team.
