Bomberman Online
A Dreamcast Bomberman game with multiple multiplayer modes.
Bomberman Online is a multiplayer title for the Dreamcast, belonging to the Bomberman series. It offers several multiplayer modes, but its online servers ceased operation in 2003, limiting players to local multiplayer only.
In gameplay, players navigate a maze, placing stationary timed bombs to damage opponents and destroy parts of the map. The game features multiple modes. Survival Rule is the classic battle, where the last player alive wins; it is used against the Electric Dragons, whose boss is Thunder Bomber. Hyper Bomber Rule tasks players with collecting three target panel power-ups and reaching the map's center, triggering a large explosion that eliminates all but the collector. A skull circles the player for each panel collected, and all panels are lost on death. This mode is used against the Red Phoenix, whose bosses are the Bomber Brothers. Submarine Rule resembles real-time Battleship: players place a timed bomb that moves to an adjacent spot when the timer expires. It is used against the Princess Mariners, whose boss is Bomber Mermaid. Panel Paint Rule challenges players to color as many squares as possible with their explosions; squares turn brown upon the player's death. It is used against the Iron Bulldozers, whose boss is Bomber Gun Rock. Ring Match Rule awards points for eliminating opponents, with players respawning after death. It is used against the Storm Giants, whose boss is Aladdin Bomber.
The story follows Bomberman entering the Bomblympics to defend his title as hero of Planet Bomber. Six contestants, including Bomberman, compete in trials set inside each other's bases. Bomberman goes first, navigating all five opponents' bases—the Electric Dragons, Red Phoenix, Princess Mariners, Iron Bulldozers, and Storm Giants—and defeating each in their throne room. Due to his skill, no other contestant gets a chance to compete, and Bomberman retains his championship.
