Lore & Background
The narrative follows Leaf Ninja Naruto Uzumaki and Rogue Ninja Sasuke Uchiha as they participate in the Fourth Shinobi World War against the terrorist organization Akatsuki. The story begins with a fight between the founders of Hidden Leaf Village, Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha. The war involves Obito Uchiha and the reanimated Madara awakening the Ten-Tails. Sasuke learns the village's origin from the reanimated Hokage, and together with Naruto's group, they defeat Obito. Madara is betrayed by Black Zetsu, who revives Kaguya Otsutsuki. Naruto and Sasuke seal Kaguya, and after a final battle, Naruto becomes the Seventh Hokage. The game also includes a story mode set after the war and the downloadable content Road to Boruto, set fifteen years later, focusing on Naruto's son Boruto.
Reader's Guide
The game uses regular fighting systems with the ability to switch among a team of three fighters who can assist each other. Returning features include wall-running, boss fights with quick time events, and hack and slash areas. New features include the ability to break weapons and armor, inflict elemental damage, and swap characters during battle. The roster includes 106 fighters from the Naruto universe, including duplicates and characters from the films The Last: Naruto the Movie and Boruto: Naruto the Movie. The game received generally-positive reviews, with praise for its narrative and graphics, but critics were divided about the story length and control depth.
