Lambis
Large sea snails with fingerlike shell projections, known as spider conchs.
Lambis is a genus of large marine gastropod mollusks belonging to the family Strombidae, commonly referred to as the true conch family. These sea snails are often called spider conchs because of the fingerlike projections that extend from the edge of the shell aperture. Their siphonal canal is long and curved, and the apertural lip features these distinctive circumapertural processes.
Species within the genus include Lambis arachnoides, Lambis crocata, Lambis lambis, Lambis lilikae (described by Villar in 2016), Lambis millepeda, Lambis montorum (described by T. Cossignani and Lorenz in 2020), Lambis pilsbryi, Lambis robusta, Lambis scorpius, and Lambis truncata.
Several species have been placed into synonymy. For instance, Lambis adamii is a synonym of Lambis lambis, while Lambis aratrum (Röding, 1798) is now considered Euprotomus aratrum.
