Precision Passing
Lead your receiver to victory with surgical precision.
Precision Passing was introduced in Madden NFL 06 as a new layer of realism alongside the controversial QB Vision Control system. Pushing the stick in a direction as the quarterback throws puts the ball over the receiver's head, behind him, in front of him or at his knees. By pressing the directional pad or left analog stick during the throw, quarterbacks can target specific zones: over the receiver's head, behind them, in front of them, or at their knees.

Lore & Background
In Madden NFL 06, Precision Passing functioned as a direct complement to the QB Vision Control system. The game required quarterbacks to have their intended receiver inside a spotlight-like vision cone to achieve accuracy; passing outside this cone resulted in weak, inaccurate throws. While QB Vision handled targeting and awareness, Precision Passing managed trajectory. Players could manipulate the ball's flight path using the left analog stick or directional buttons at the moment of release. If a receiver broke toward the endzone, the passer had to throw 'in front' of them. If a defender was closing in from behind, the ball might need to be thrown 'over the head.' The size of the quarterback's vision cone depends on his Awareness rating, which makes the game harder with less-aware quarterbacks.
Reader's Guide
To use Precision Passing effectively in Madden NFL 06, players must press the directional button or left analog stick in the desired direction as the quarterback releases the ball. This input determines if the throw goes over the receiver's head, behind them, in front of them, or at their knees. Success requires synchronizing this input with the QB Vision Control system; the intended receiver must be inside the vision cone for the pass to have any accuracy. The size of the vision cone depends on the quarterback's Awareness rating, meaning less-aware quarterbacks have smaller windows for accurate passing.
