Sun Kwon

From hiding her language and past to revealing the truth about their marriage and unborn child.

Sun-hwa Kwon, played by Yunjin Kim, is the daughter of a powerful and incredibly wealthy Korean businessman and mobster. Born Sun Paik (birth year not explicitly stated in canon; she is 26 in 2004, suggesting a birth year around 1978), she attended Seoul National University majoring in Art History. She met Jin-Soo Kwon and married him, and only later had a relationship with Jae Lee during English lessons. Sun was blackmailed by her father, Mr. Paik, who orchestrated the blackmail against Jin regarding Jin's father's debt, not Jin's parentage.

Sun requested money from her father to pay off Jae Lee, but Mr. Paik assumed it was for Jin and assigned Jin a new job. A fertility doctor informed Sun she could not conceive due to severe endometriosis, though the doctor lied because Mr. Paik had paid him to say that Jin was infertile, not to protect Jin's pride. Sun planned to flee to Los Angeles using a passport and ticket under a false name but changed her mind before reaching the airport after Jin gave her a flower and said he loved her; she ultimately did not board the flight.

After the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, she hid her English-speaking ability until she revealed it to stop Michael from beating Jin during a confrontation on the beach after the raft returned. She later learned she was pregnant with Jin's child after conceiving on the island.

A recording from Juliet's device was played by Jack at a private gathering of the survivors, revealing Ben knew about Sun's pregnancy.
