Background
With the score tied 17-17 in the fourth quarter, Norm Van Brocklin, in for Bob Waterfield, hit Tom Fears at midfield for a 73-yard touchdown that won it. A then-record 59,475 fans attended. It was the first NFL title game televised coast to coast, though it was blacked out in Southern California, and it was the first professional championship won by a Los Angeles team. It was also the Rams' third straight title game.
