Background

The 1993 season was the 104th for the Dodgers in MLB and their 36th in Los Angeles. The team finished fourth in the National League West, improving on a dismal 1992 season. Rookie catcher Mike Piazza set rookie records with 35 home runs and 112 RBI, and hit two home runs in the season-ending win over the Giants. The season was marred by the sudden death of Hall of Fame pitcher and broadcaster Don Drysdale, who was found dead in his Montreal hotel room on July 3 before a game against the Expos. To date, 1993 is the only season in Dodger history where the team finished exactly at .500.
