Plot
Emperor Belos prepares a portal to the Human Realm while the Collector mocks him for barely maintaining his human form. Belos tells the Collector to be patient as the Day of Unity will begin soon. Alador worries about the increased supply of Abomatons to Belos, but Odalia dismisses his concerns. Amity, Edric, and Emira attempt to sneak out of Blight Manor to sabotage Abomaton production, but Edric and Emira are caught by an Abomaton while trying to burn down a factory, and Odalia grounds all three. At the Covens Against the Throne hideout, the crew learns they have 24 hours to stop Belos's draining spell, which would exterminate all life on the Boiling Isles. Eda Clawthorne suggests warping the spell by replacing Raine Whispers as Bard Coven Head, using her curse to disrupt it, though she would need to gain a sigil. Luz Noceda completes a palisman carved into an egg, wanting it to decide its own future. As the CAT crew boards an airship, Eda encourages Luz to see Amity. Luz meets Willow Park, Gus Porter, and Hunter, who asks Luz not to reveal he is a Grimwalker. At Blight Manor, Luz and Amity share a romantic moment, with Luz promising a peaceful date and Amity leaning in for a kiss. Eda takes Raine's place as Bard Coven Head and is branded with the sigil. Luz, Amity, Hunter, Willow, and Gus infiltrate Blight Industries to halt Abomaton production. King speaks with Alador, who complains about his wife's treatment and his desire to care for his children better; King reveals the truth about the Day of Unity to Alador.
Critical reception
Lee Arvoy of TV Source Magazine praised the episode as a good lead-in to the season finale, highlighting the relationship between Emperor Belos and the Collector, Luz and Amity's kiss, and the relationship between Raine Whispers and Eda Clawthorne. The kiss between Luz Noceda and Amity Blight near the episode's end marked the first same-sex kiss in a Disney Channel show or animated series. The scene received praise for showcasing a same-sex kiss, with many commending the show's progressiveness in children's television. Jade King of TheGamer wrote that the scene and the show itself were trailblazers in children's television regarding acceptance of same-sex love, stating that The Owl House has established itself as one of the most progressive animated shows in history and that Luz and Amity's relationship reached a new crescendo in this episode. Heather Hogan of Autostraddle praised show creator Dana Terrace, saying there was no doubt Terrace would fight to make the kiss happen, and noted that unlike other cartoons that paved the way, this one is geared toward even younger audiences, with Terrace pushing Disney to be exactly who they need to be.
