Background

When they are attacking, a loud growling noise can be heard along with debris flying up from the ground in which they will shoot out from. If players cannot quickly get out of the way in time, then they are swallowed and eaten. Earth Leviathans roam underground, searching for prey. When one locates prey, it centers itself on top of it and then rises up, causing the ground to rumble and rocks to burst from the earth. It then emerges and leaps high into the air, killing anything in its path, including Forest Keepers and Eyeless Dogs.

The Earth Leviathan displays a huge red dot on the monitor, much larger than the Eyeless Dog, Forest Keeper and Baboon Hawk. Its attack has two parts: the growling indicates tracking of the player at its location, and only after black particles are emitted will it rise from the ground. It is possible to sprint out of the area of attack with a fast enough reaction time and low enough weight, so the best strategy is to drop heavy items and run. Earth Leviathans devour every entity within the area marked by black particles when emerging from and returning beneath the ground, except the Ghost Girl; loot on the ground is not devoured, but loot in a devoured player's inventory is. They can be tricked into eating Forest Keepers, and while they will not target players standing on the ship, they can consume players on the ship during an attack.
