The film traces each band member's childhood: Jimmy Page born amid the rubble of the Blitz; John Paul Jones queuing for rations; Robert Plant chafing against post-war austerity. All four cite early inspiration from African American artists such as Sonny Boy Williamson II, Little Richard, and James Brown. As teenagers, Page and Jones became elite session musicians in London, while Plant and Bonham drifted through short-lived bands. After Page's band the Yardbirds dissolved, he formed a new lineup with Plant, Bonham, and Jones. Their second album, Led Zeppelin II, reached number one on the Billboard 200, replacing The Beatles' Abbey Road.
