Gameplay
The player controls Jake, a cyborg militant, and explores a large island stage. Jake wields a plasma blade that can transform into weapons such as an axe, broadsword, or hammer during combo attacks. The blade can also grapple enemies from afar with a blue energy cord. Jake's metallic body has wings that extend from his shoulderblades, allowing him to glide and serving as a limiter release for more powerful combos and finishing moves. The player faces mutated inhabitants called Orgamechs, including humanoids, bugs, and dogs. A points counter tallies blood spilled after killing an orgamech; reaching certain amounts grants extra health and energy and increases maximum health and energy.
Synopsis
The game is set in 2021, where the United States established an island facility called Nanomachine Island to research nanotechnology for military and civilian use. The world's foremost scientists, analysts, and businessmen were placed in a secluded community there. After 20 years of technological advancement, the island falls into chaos. The player, as Jake, assists the daughter of a brilliant scientist in restoring order by destroying the main computer that manages the nanomachines. Jake Warren, voiced by Crispin Freeman, is the leader of a cyborg militant group that fought in a war seven years before the game begins. After being accused of killing innocent civilians during a skirmish, he and his squad were placed under cryogenic sleep for seven years. He is awakened to deal with the Orgamech outbreak on Nanomachine Island. Jake has an average physique, shoulder-length white-blond hair, and a body made of metal that appears entirely mechanical except for his head. He acquires special abilities called Boosters during the game, such as Plasma Storm, Speed Up, and Status Boost. Jake also has a combo list that can be upgraded with nanomachine cores of different colors found in levels.
