Plot
Ten years after being shot down from the World Trade Center, Kong has been kept in a coma at the Atlantic Institute under the care of surgeon Dr. Amy Franklin. He needs an artificial heart and a blood transfusion, and adventurer Hank "Mitch" Mitchell finds a giant female ape of Kong's species in Borneo, whom he names Lady Kong. The operation succeeds, but Kong senses Lady Kong, breaks free and escapes with her into the wilderness, hunted by a military force under the unhinged Lieutenant Colonel Archie Nevitt while Franklin and Mitchell try to protect the apes. Mortally wounded at the end, Kong manages to see and touch his son before he dies.
Legacy
It was the final Kong film in which the title character was played using suits and practical effects; later films used computer animation. Konami released two games based on the film in 1986, including King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch for the Famicom.
