HC Davos was founded in 1921 and presented the first Spengler Cup in 1923. From 1933 to 1950, the club was led by a forward line known as 'The ni-storm' (German: Der ni-sturm), named for the last syllable (-ni) of players' surnames. The line included Bibi Torriani and brothers Hans Cattini and Ferdinand Cattini, and was regarded as the top line of both HC Davos and the Switzerland national team during that period. Under their leadership, the club won 18 Swiss championships and six Spengler Cups.

The team faced a low point in 1990 when it was relegated to 1. Liga. After a new beginning, the club moved into the Swiss League and returned to the NL two years later. Since then, Davos has been among the best teams in the league, with recent league championships in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2015.
