Career
Muchlas first got involved in organizational work through the Muhammadiyah Student Association while he was still in school. By 1998, he was working as a public relations officer for the Indonesian Travel Agency Association in Yogyakarta and also served as a director at PT Surya Sarana Utama, a company owned by Muhammadiyah. From 2005 to 2010, he was a member of the Education Board Leadership within the Muhammadiyah Central Board. In 2014, Muchlas took on the role of Secretary General for the PSSI DKI Jakarta Province. While in that position, he pushed for DKI Jakarta to become the host of the National Sports Week, but the plan fell through because the province's PSSI Chairman, Gusti Randa, failed to make the case for Jakarta as a viable host. It was during this time that Muchlas first suggested building a new stadium in Jakarta that could meet international standards, an idea that eventually became the Jakarta International Stadium under Governor Anies Baswedan. On October 17, 2019, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno appointed Muchlas as an Independent Commissioner of PT Jamkrindo through decree SK-241/MBU/10/2019. In that role, he was put in charge of overseeing the company's information technology systems to help make financial services more accessible for micro, small, and medium enterprises. In 2020, Muchlas became the Chairman of INATKF. That same year, the organization took home three gold, two silver, and seven bronze medals from the 2020 Afro-Asia Online Traditional Karate Championship. At the 3rd Asia Oceania/Asian Cup held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the end of December 2022, the Indonesian team earned five gold and two silver medals. Also in 2022, Muchlas served as the Secretary General of ITKF for the Asia/Oceania region, a role he held during the World Traditional Karate Championship in Slovenia, which featured 35 countries. He also secured official state recognition for INATKF and made it a full member of the Indonesian Community Recreation Sports Committee. In 2022, Muchlas was appointed Deputy Treasurer II of the Muhammadiyah Higher Education and Research Council.
