Common

Chicago rapper and actor who released two albums through Kanye West's GOOD Music.

Common, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn on March 13, 1972 and formerly known as Common Sense, is an American rapper, actor and activist whose honours include three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He signed with the independent label Relativity Records at 20, which released his first three albums, and reached a mainstream audience through his work with the Soulquarians collective.

Lore & Background

Common signed with fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West's label GOOD Music, in a joint venture with Geffen Records, to release his sixth and seventh albums, Be (2005) and Finding Forever (2007). Both were nominated for the Grammy for Best Rap Album, and Finding Forever, his first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, included "Southside" featuring West. Common's long-time producer No I.D., who made most of Resurrection, later became a mentor to the young Kanye West.
