Tomie Unlimited

A sister returns from the dead with a monstrous tumor.

Last updated

Tomie Unlimited is a 2011 Japanese psychological-body horror film directed by Noboru Iguchi. It serves as the eighth installment and reboot of the Tomie film series, partially incorporating elements from the manga chapters Photograph, Kiss, and Mansion.

Plot

Tsukiko Izumikawa, a high school photography club member, walks home with her best friend Yoshie Kazuya when she encounters her elder sister Tomie, who attends the same school, accompanied by Toshio Shinoda, a boy Tsukiko secretly likes. At Tomie's request, Tsukiko photographs her. As Tsukiko stops taking pictures, a steel cross falls from a building under construction, crushing Tomie's neck and killing her. One year later, Tsukiko's life has regained some normality, though she still grieves and has recurring nightmares.

On Tomie's 18th birthday, the family gathers around a cake. A knock at the door reveals Tomie, alive and more beautiful than before. Her parents joyfully welcome her, but Tsukiko is confused.

Tomie persuades their father Masashi to whip Tsukiko's back with a steam iron cable for not showing affection. Tomie's behavior grows increasingly bizarre; she shows Tsukiko a scar on her neck that develops into a deranged, talking tumor. Tsukiko calls Tomie a monster. Offended, Tomie attempts to leave, but Masashi stabs and kills her with a butcher knife.
