The story follows Akuto Sai, an orphan raised in a church-run orphanage who transfers to Constant Magic Academy hoping to become a high priest. Upon arrival, the school's oracular spirit Yatagarasu predicts his future occupation as 'Demon King,' causing the student body to fear and resent him. Despite his good intentions, his attempts to prove otherwise are often misinterpreted, leading to complicated relationships with classmates including the studious class head Junko Hattori, the mysterious Kena Soga, and the android Korone.

Akuto possesses immense power over 'mana,' a form of energy in living things and the environment, but his early magic attempts result in catastrophic explosions. The series balances love, magic, and battles as Akuto strives to contribute to society while being guarded by Korone, a government-assigned Surveillance Agent. Key characters include Hiroshi Miwa, Akuto's self-described minion who later becomes the hero Brave, and Junko, a sword-wielding disciple of the god Suhara from the Iga Ninja Clan.

A manga adaptation began monthly serialization in the September 2008 issue of Akita Shoten's magazine Champion Red. The anime adaptation by Artland aired 12 episodes between April and June 2010 on Tokyo MX and other channels.
