Overview

Onigawara, director of the International Secret Police Agency, trained Takeshi Yoroi to become a top criminal investigator, making him an all-around sportsman and martial arts expert. However, their differing attitudes toward crime-fighting led Onigawara to disown Takeshi. Takeshi then worked alone before becoming private detective Joe Kuruma's assistant under his alias. Secretly, Takeshi obtained a new artificial polymer called polymet, stronger than steel, and used it to transform into Hurricane Polymar, a costumed hero fighting various gangs. The suit grants augmented strength and high-speed rotation, and can transform into five vehicles: Polymar Hawk (supersonic jet), Polymar Grampus (submarine), Polymar Drill (tank with twin drills), Polymar Machine (formula-one race car), and Polymar Roller (steam roller). The suit lasts up to forty-six minutes and one second before requiring reversal; otherwise, hyperthermia threatens Takeshi. Powered by magnetism, it is vulnerable to high voltage and temperatures below −50 degrees Celsius. When inactive, the suit is disguised as his motorcycle helmet.

Media

In the second episode of the Time Bokan: Royal Revival OVA, Polymar appears alongside other Tatsunoko heroes. A two-part OVA titled Hurricane Polymar: Holy Blood features extremists mutating into amphibious shark-like creatures; it was intended to have three episodes but was cancelled after the second, ending without a proper conclusion. Urban Vision released it on VHS in the late 1990s, and Discotek Media holds the US DVD rights. Hurricane Polymar appears as a playable character in the PlayStation game Tatsunoko Fight, alongside Teru (in a costume from episode 15) and an original character Astral Chameleon. He also appears in the Wii game Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. A live-action film adaptation was released on May 13, 2017, directed by Koichi Sakamoto with a script by Shinsuke Onishi, starring Junpei Mizobata, Yuki Yamada, Yurina Yanagi, Mikie Hara, Hatsunori Hasegawa, and Satoshi Jinbo; its theme song is "Kanashimi Naki Sekai e" by Good Morning America. Infini-T Force, a crossover anime series featuring characters from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Casshan, Hurricane Polymar, and Tekkaman: The Space Knight, aired from October 3 to December 26, 2017, co-produced by Tatsunoko and Digital Frontier.
