Plot
The story takes place in the town of Gamebridge, where a portal from the fictional Mix Master video game world of Atreia accidentally opens. This allows game creatures called hench, along with the evil Prince Brad, to invade the peaceful town. The main protagonist, 11-year-old Ditt Lee, receives a card shuffler from the eccentric Dr. Joeb. He must learn to mix hench—fusing them together—to restore peace and fulfill his destiny as the one true Mix Master. Over two hundred hench species appear, ranked from 1 (low) to 7 (high) based on power. Hench of the same rank and species can be fused to create a stronger hench. They exhibit human-like traits such as sleeping, eating, talking, and tiring from overuse. Hench bond with honest and friendly humans but must obey the owner of their card shuffler. Above rank 7 exists the Ultimate Hench, formed by fusing all eight rank-7 hench with the Mix Master and the Master Hench. Legend says the Master Hench must choose a human friend, who then becomes the Mix Master. The Master Hench can be mixed to create the Ultimate Hench, capable of defeating Giara.
