Saudi Arabia has won the AFC Asian Cup three times (1984, 1988, and 1996) and reached a joint record six Asian Cup finals. They have qualified for the FIFA World Cup seven times since 1994. Saudi Arabia is the first Asian team to reach the final of a senior FIFA competition at the 1992 King Fahd Cup.

At the 1994 FIFA World Cup, under Jorge Solari, Saudi Arabia beat Belgium and Morocco in the group stage before losing to Sweden in the round of 16. They became the second Arab team to reach the knockout stage of a World Cup. In 2022, they beat eventual champions Argentina 2–1 but lost to Poland and Mexico. Saudi Arabia will host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
