Lore & Background
The game's story involves Samos Hagai, the Green Sage, who seeks to uncover the mysteries of the Precursors. Jak and Daxter discover a pit of Dark Eco, transforming Daxter into an ottsel. They seek Gol Acheron, a Sage who studied Dark Eco, to reverse the transformation. The antagonists are Gol and his sister Maia, who have been corrupted by Dark Eco and plan to open Dark Eco silos to reshape the world. Jak and Daxter free the four Sages, who combine their powers into Light Eco, which Jak uses to destroy the Precursor Robot and defeat Gol and Maia. Daxter remains an ottsel at the end.
In Their Own Story
The wind off the salt flats carries a faint, acrid smell—Dark Eco, pooling in the cracks of the old Precursor road. Jak crouches on a ridge of bleached stone, his fingers tracing the faded glyph-carvings that no one in Sandover can read. Daxter, perched on his shoulder, sniffs the air and shivers, his tiny orange fur bristling. "You feel that?" Jak murmurs. Daxter does not answer. He doesn't need to. Below them, the Order's black banners ripple over the ruined temple, and the ground itself seems to breathe a slow, oily pulse. Somewhere deep in the earth, a Precursor mechanism groans to life for the first time in a thousand years, and the Dark Eco surges upward like a tide. Jak stands. Daxter grips his collar. They walk down into the dark together, and the land watches them go.
