The Voyage of the Uí Chorra
An Irish voyage tale of repentance and Atlantic adventure.
The Voyage of the Uí Chorra is one of the three surviving Immrama, ancient Irish voyage tales. It recounts how three sons of Connall ua Corra, a Connacht landowner who had bargained with the Devil before their birth, became bandits targeting churches. After a vision they repented, repaired the churches under St. Finnian of Clonard, and on St. Coman of Kinvara's advice set out on an Atlantic voyage in a currach with five others. They visited legendary islands, encountered peoples and adventures, and eventually reached the Iberian Peninsula, where they built a church. The bishop later went to Rome with one youth, then returned to Ireland, where the story was written as a poem.
