It stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, and Verónica Falcón.[1] This movie offers a new take on The Mummy franchise, centering on the Nasmaranian, an ancient Egyptian demon that takes over its hosts.[1]
Making and release
It was released in theaters in the United States on April 17, 2026, by Warner Bros.[2] It opened to $13.5 million, ranking third for the weekend.[3] New Line Cinema scheduled a film, with Lee Cronin as writer and director but no title yet, for an April 17, 2026 release in June 2024.[4] By December of that year, the previously untitled project was identified as a fresh interpretation of The Mummy series, carrying the name Lee Cronin's The Mummy.[4]
The suggestion to feature Cronin's name in the movie's title came from producer Jason Blum.[5] Although initially hesitant about the idea, Cronin eventually agreed to it.[5] Filming started on March 24, 2025, in both Ireland and Spain, and wrapped up on June 25 of the same year.[6] The first showing of Lee Cronin's The Mummy took place on April 9, 2026, at the American Legion Post 43 cinema located in Los Angeles.[2]
Thursday night previews generated $1.5 million for the film.[3]
What the cited sources add
A Deadline article reports that the film was originally pitched at Universal, but Blumhouse and Atomic Monster walked their Mummy over to New Line.[7] The same source notes that Cronin's previous film Evil Dead Rise grossed $147.1M globally and $46M net profit in its first cycle.[7] A Shot Magazine interview states that May Calamawy and May Elghety were cast authentically in roles that finally feel rooted in truth.[8] The interview adds that Calamawy had to work on her Egyptian dialect for The Mummy, as she grew up speaking more Shami.[8]
A GamesRadar+ article quotes Cronin saying the risk was not making a sequel to his last movie, because that was really easy for him to do.[9] The same article notes that Cronin's Evil Dead Rise earned rave reviews and grossed $147 million against a budget of $14 million.[9]
