Viltrumite Homeworld
The origin of a race that claimed to bring peace while conquering the stars.
The Viltrumite Homeworld serves as the capital of the Viltrumite Empire, a galactic force created by Robert Kirkman with artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. This planet is the origin of genetically advanced humanoids known for immense strength, flight, and near-invulnerability. While initially described by Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson) in Invincible #2 as a peacemaking race intent on improving the universe, this was revealed to be a lie masking their true nature as violent warmongers. The planet anchors a society driven by conquest, where the mission is to dominate other worlds. Following internal conflict and the death of Emperor Argall at the hands of Thaedus, the empire faced decline but remained centered on this world.

Lore & Background
Viltrum's history is defined by Darwinian philosophy and brutal purification. Under Emperor Argall, individuals deemed weak were purged in an event known as the Great Purge, which killed a significant portion of the population of over three billion Viltrumites to leave only the strongest survivors. This shift established a militant empire where strength was the sole currency. After the purge, Grand Regent Thragg maintained stability while concealing the extent of their decline caused by the Scourge Virus, a bioweapon created by Thaedus that struck approximately 500 years before the main events, directly causing the empire's decline by killing approximately 99.9% of the population and leaving fewer than fifty adults alive.
The virus forced the survivors to initiate cross-species reproduction programs. Nolan Grayson was sent to Earth as part of a long-term infiltration and conquest plan, not specifically to test if humans could produce viable offspring; his relationship with Debbie and the birth of Mark were not the primary mission objective.
Reader's Guide
To understand the Viltrumite Homeworld, one must recognize it as the seat of a dictatorship where King Thragg rules. The planet's culture enforces a strict hierarchy where weakness is eliminated without hesitation. Key figures like Omni-Man, Conquest, Thragg, and Anissa all originate here. The location is central to the plot of Invincible #2 onward, serving as the backdrop for the revelation of Viltrumite true intentions. Visitors or readers should note that the planet's stability was a facade maintained by Thragg after the Great Purge reduced their numbers by half. It is also the strategic point from which the Scourge Virus threat emerged and where the decision to test cross-species breeding was made. The homeworld remains the focal point of the conflict between Viltrumite dominance and the Coalition of Planets.
