Angstrom Levy Multiverse

Infinite memories, one disfigured mind, and a war across dimensions.

Angstrom Levy is a recurring supervillain in the Image Comics series Invincible, created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Ryan Ottley. First introduced in issue #16 in 2004, he began as a scientist seeking to improve his reality by gathering knowledge from alternate versions of himself across the multiverse. Initially motivated by advancement, circumstances twisted him into a sociopathic, amoral, and narcissistic antagonist. His primary ability involves interdimensional teleportation, allowing him to open portals to other realities to accumulate intelligence and execute strategic attacks against the superhero Invincible.

Lore & Background

Angstrom Levy was originally a tall, slender African-American man with short black hair, brown eyes, and a small pointed beard, typically wearing a blue shirt and black trousers. He constructed a device to merge the memories of his alternate-universe counterparts, assisted by the Mauler Twins. This procedure was abruptly interrupted by Invincible (Mark Grayson), causing a catastrophic explosion that physically disfigured Levy and left him psychologically unstable with conflicting memories from multiple realities.

Post-accident, his hair was burned off, his skull and upper spine enlarged with pronounced veins, and he required life-support devices including spinal bracing and a nasal apparatus. He often wore a dark cloak to conceal his identity. Later, after a failed plan involving evil Invincible variants, Levy was gravely injured and rescued by the Technicians. They implanted cybernetic modifications, including head implants and a spinal support system, leaving him blind in one eye with visible scarring. He subsequently adopted a black and silver armored suit and a red cape.

Reader's Guide

Levy's primary superhuman ability is interdimensional teleportation, which he uses to open portals for strategic advantage or knowledge accumulation. His exposure to numerous versions of himself made him extremely intelligent yet mentally unstable. After his failed mind-merging experiment, he gained enhanced strength and durability. He frequently resurfaced to challenge Invincible, often utilizing alternate realities as a tactical resource. The Technicians later supervised his operations while he remained a reluctant participant in their plans, continuing to use his dimensional abilities for their purposes. His unique use of the multiverse concept predates its mainstream adoption in other superhero media.
