The club was formed on 9 March 1908 to allow foreign players to play in Italy. Inter played its first competitive match on 10 January 1909 against Milan, losing 3–2. The club won its very first title in 1910 – the 1909–10 Italian Football Championship.

Milan, May 1910. The air is thick with humidity and anticipation at the Campo di Via Fratelli Bronzetti. A small crowd presses against the ropes, their hats tipped low against the sun. On the pitch, a leather ball thuds heavy against mud-stained boots. A whistle blows sharply. The final minutes tick away. Inter holds possession near the center line, defending desperately against Pro Vercelli's relentless pressure. The captain raises a hand, signaling calm. The crowd falls silent, save for the rhythmic chanting of 'Forza Inter'. As the referee checks his pocket watch, the tension snaps into relief. They have done it. In the stands, a man in a dark coat tears off his hat, shouting to the sky. The first star has been earned.
