One of the few teams never relegated from Serie A (and the only one still active in the top flight since 1929), with a legacy of treble glory and European dominance.

Football Club Internazionale Milano, widely referred to as Internazionale or simply Inter, and commonly known as Inter Milan in English-speaking countries, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy. Inter is one of the few teams to have never been relegated from Serie A since its introduction in 1929, a distinction it now holds alone after Juventus was relegated to Serie B in 2006 due to the Calciopoli scandal. Since 1947, Inter has shared the San Siro stadium, the largest stadium in Italy, with AC Milan, with whom it contests the long-standing Derby della Madonnina.

The club was founded on 9 March 1908 after a split within the Milan Foot-Ball and Cricket Club (now AC Milan), and won its first championship in 1910. The captain of that first championship-winning team was Virgilio Fossati, who was later killed in battle during World War I; the coach for that title was not officially recorded. In the 1930s, Inter's main star was Giuseppe Meazza, one of the greatest Italian players of all time, who scored 242 (or 243 according to some sources) goals for the club and after whom the San Siro stadium is officially named. Under manager Helenio Herrera in the 1960s, Inter became one of the leading teams in Europe, winning three Serie A titles in four years, two European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups in a row.

The first organized Italian ultras groups emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, not in 1951—the Fedelissimi Granata of Torino were a fan club, not an ultras group in the modern sense.
The first organized ultras group in Inter's Curva Nord, Fossa dei Leoni, was formed in 1969, after the Grande Inter era.
