Ray Hudson began his professional career at age 17 with Newcastle United in 1973, making 25 appearances and earning the nickname 'Rocky' from supporters. After four years in the Football League First Division, he moved to the United States, playing for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers from 1977 to 1983. Former teammate Paul Cannell claimed he encouraged Hudson to move to America with tales of sex, drugs, rock and roll and football. Hudson transitioned to broadcasting, working for ESPN's 2002 World Cup coverage, GolTV from 2004, and later beIN Sports. In 2012, he joined Sirius XM Radio as host of The Football Show on SiriusXM FC 157. His commentating style, mimicking darts commentator Sid Waddell, features metaphors and excited descriptions. He left beIN Sports in September 2022 for CBS Sports' UEFA Champions League coverage, and announced his retirement from commentary in September 2025.
