Spirit Plane
A shadowy dimension where lost souls wander and ancient demons hunt the living.
The Spirit Plane, frequently referred to within the lore as The Further, is a forbidden realm from which demons haunt the living. It is an astral plane that serves as a vessel for ghosts, and it is the place where the Lambert family's son mysteriously enters a comatose state. The Further is also where the titular demon of Dalton's past terrorizes him, and it is the realm from which the Key Demon entered the human world after a young Elise Rainier opened a forbidden red door.
Lore & Background
The Further is a forbidden realm that appears throughout the Insidious franchise. In the first two films, the Lambert family is continuously haunted by demons from this realm until they take from the family what they want most: life. The first two films center on a couple whose son becomes a vessel for ghosts in this astral plane. In Insidious: The Last Key, a young Elise Rainier opens a forbidden red door and unwillingly allows an extremely dangerous spirit known as the Key Demon to enter the human world from the Further. In Insidious: The Red Door, a grown-up Dalton Lambert is terrorized by the titular demon of his past, which originates from the Further. The sixth film, Insidious: Out of the Further, is titled after this realm.
