Insidious: The Last Key

Insidious: The Last Key, released in 2018, is an American supernatural horror film. Adam Robitel directed it, and Leigh Whannell wrote the screenplay. The producers were Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James Wan. This movie is the fourth entry in the Insidious series and, within the story’s timeline, comes second. The plot centers on parapsychologist Elise Rainier, who looks into a haunting at the house where she grew up. Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, Whannell, Spencer Locke, Caitlin Gerard, and Bruce Davison star. It follows *Insidious: Chapter 3* (2015) and serves as the second prequel to the original *Insidious* (2010) and its sequel *Insidious: Chapter 2* (2013). Talks about a fourth film started in June 2015, with Whannell suggesting the next movie would occur shortly before the first one. In May 2016, it was announced that *Chapter 4* would come out in October 2017, with Whannell writing, Blum, Peli, and Wan producing, Robitel directing, and Shaye returning as Elise Rainier. Principal photography ran from August 2016 to the following month. Universal Pictures released the film in the United States on January 5, 2018. It earned $172 million globally and got mixed reviews. The next installment, *Insidious: The Red Door*, came out on July 7, 2023, and continues the story from the first two films. In 1953, Elise Rainier lives in Five Keys, New Mexico, with her parents, Audrey and Gerald, and her brother, Christian. A spirit in their bedroom scares Elise and Christian, and Christian loses a whistle their mother gave him to call for help. Gerald does not believe Elise’s story, beats her, and locks her in the basement. There, Elise finds a mysterious red door. She opens it, accidentally releasing a demonic spirit called “Keyface,” who kills Audrey. Fifty-seven years later, Elise works as a paranormal investigator with her colleagues, Specs and Tucker. Three years after finishing the Quinn Brenner case, a man named Ted Garza calls, reporting paranormal activity at his house. Elise realizes it is her childhood home and goes to help. While investigating, she finds Christian’s lost whistle, but it disappears again after she encounters a female spirit. Elise tells Specs and Tucker she had seen that spirit as a teenager. She later ran away to escape Gerald’s abuse, leaving Christian behind.
