Dhruv Sehgal created and starred in the Indian romantic comedy series Little Things alongside Mithila Palkar. It first aired on Dice Media's YouTube channel, then Netflix bought the show for its later seasons. The fourth and final season came out in 2021.
Production
Dhruv Sehgal started writing the show in late 2015, casting Mithila Palkar, a collaborator from her days at Thespo. Ajay Bhuyan directed the first season’s 15-minute episodes. National Award winner Ruchir Arun directed the second and third seasons.
Themes
The series explores themes of everyday life and its challenges. Season 1 addresses fear of missing out (FOMO) from social media and late-night food cravings. Season 2 delves into personal and professional crises, including Dhruv reconnecting with an old friend and realizing they have grown apart, quitting his job due to loss of interest, and feeling aimless while Kavya receives a promotion. This leads to fights over their differences.
Other themes include Kavya's attraction to a biker on an office trip, homophobia, and considering parents as friends. Season 3 examines Dhruv and Kavya's long-distance relationship, loneliness, learning to be happy with others, additional responsibilities, self-pity, reconnecting with childhood friends, and Kavya's fear of losing a loved one (her neighbor's dog Kaju). They discuss marriage and realize their parents are aging. The season also comments on urbanization's loss of humanity in big cities.
Release
The first season aired on Dice Media's YouTube channel from 25 October 2016 to 22 November 2016, with the premiere episode gaining over 15 million views. Netflix acquired rights for the second season, released on 5 October 2018. A third season followed on 9 November 2019.
Reception
Rohan Naahar of Hindustan Times rated it 4/5, noting the show relies heavily on performances. Soumya Rao of Scroll.in called it frequently charming and never boring. Prakhya Nair of The Red Sparrow gave 3.5 stars, recommending it for those interested in real relationships. Anvita Singh of The Indian Express suggested it would have worked better with four 15-minute episodes rather than eight over 22 minutes, and critiqued the second season for lacking the show's sweet-natured relatability.
