Plot
An ancient painting of Chandramukhi, also known as Nagavalli, is given as a prize to Bharatanatyam dancer Gayathri, who lives in Tirupathi with her husband, father Shankar Rao, mother Parvathi, sisters Geetha and Gowri, maternal uncle Appa Rao, his wife, and maternal cousins Pooja and Hema. Years later, Gayathri and her husband are dead. Gowri is engaged, but on her wedding day a friend faints after seeing a large snake, and the groom calls off the wedding. The family is troubled by the painting and contacts Acharya Ramchandra Siddhanthi, who enlists Dr. Vijay, a psychiatrist and assistant to Dr. Sarvanan/Eshawar. The Acharya identifies the painting as one previously encountered at Ganga's house, where Vijay's mentor and the Acharya had solved a similar problem five years earlier. One night, Vijay hears anklet sounds in the outhouse and finds Gayathri alive but mentally disturbed after her husband's death. The family had hidden her to avoid harming the marriage prospects of Geetha and Gowri.
