Season 1 was released on Netflix on 1 February 2013. Frank Underwood, the House majority whip, is passed over for Secretary of State by the new President, Garrett Walker.

With Claire and his aide Doug Stamper, he plots revenge.

Background

Frank starts an affair with the reporter Zoe Barnes and uses her to plant stories. He backs Peter Russo for governor of Pennsylvania, then ruins him and kills him.

By the end of the season, Frank is chosen to be Vice President.
