Mr. Vampire 1992

A jiangshi sequel with demonic fetuses and vampire fangs.

Mr. Vampire 1992 (also called Chinese Vampire Story) is a 1992 Hong Kong comedy horror from director Ricky Lau. It is the fifth and final jiangshi film he made in the Mr. Vampire series, and is regarded as the genuine follow-up to the 1985 original. The story picks up right after the first movie, with Lam Ching-ying, Ricky Hui, and Chin Siu-ho returning as their earlier characters. New faces appear, while some original actors like Billy Lau take on fresh roles. A reference to Man-choi’s experience with the hopping corpse virus ties the two films together.

Plot

The story revolves around the souls of aborted fetuses living inside statues, waiting to be reborn. One particularly vicious spirit takes over a nanny, who then searches for a pregnant woman to host it, eventually targeting Mai Kei-lin, Priest Kau’s childhood sweetheart. In a parallel plot, a General—Mai’s husband—has been infected with a vampire virus by his dead father. He asks Kau for a cure, which involves grinding the father’s fangs into an antidote. When that fails, Kau’s disciples must hunt other vampires to collect their fangs. Both threads meet at the end: the demon child fully possesses Mai, while the vengeful vampires attack the General’s home in a final showdown.
